How to Pre-Order iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro in Canada

When you can pre-order Apple’s iPhone 16 series in Canada? According to Apple’s website, pre-orders for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max begin at 5 a.m. PT/8 a.m. ET on Friday, September 13, 2024. If you’re on the west coast, setting an early alarm is recommended unless you’re an early bird.

For first-time pre-orders, using Apple’s retail store app for iPhone or iPad is the quickest way, as the app goes back online faster than Apple.ca.

How to Prepare for Your iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Pre-Order in Canada

Apple’s online store will go offline temporarily on Thursday evening (PDT) to prepare for pre-orders. During this time, you won’t be able to configure the Apple Store app, so make sure to update your payment methods and shipping addresses in advance.

Apple encourages customers to pre-configure their preferred iPhone 16 model and save it as a favourite. When pre-orders open at 5 a.m. PT/8 a.m. ET, you can quickly access the Apple Store app, go to your favourites, and complete your purchase with Apple Pay or Affirm financing (the APR rates are crazy high now at 7.99%; remember when 0% was around?).

Steps to Pre-Order Your iPhone 16 Series in Canada:

  1. Download the Apple Store iOS app, which usually comes online first compared to Apple.ca.
  2. Open the app, tap your profile icon in the top right, and set up your Primary Payment and Shipping details.
  3. Configure your desired iPhone 16 model, select your color and storage, then tap the ‘ribbon’ icon in the upper right to save it to ‘Saved Items.’
  4. When the Apple Store goes back online at 5 a.m. PT/8 a.m. ET on September 13, 2024, open the app, tap the ‘For You’ icon, scroll to ‘Saved Items,’ and proceed to checkout.

Wireless carriers such as Rogers/Fido, Telus/Koodo, Bell/Virgin, and Freedom Mobile will also offer pre-orders on September 13. Contract pricing details will be announced closer to the date.

Apple’s online reserve and store pickup options will likely return, allowing you to collect your order on launch day, Friday, September 20, 2024.

Pricing for iPhone 16 series devices have stayed the same as last year’s iPhone 15 series, which is a good thing. Check Canadian pricing out below:

Additional Pre-Order Tips:

  • Use a backup device like an iPad, Mac, or another internet-enabled device.
  • Turn off Wi-Fi on your iPhone and use LTE/5G while keeping other devices on Wi-Fi.
  • Set a backup alarm, especially if you’re on PDT.
  • Force quit and relaunch the Apple Store app minutes before pre-order time.
  • Have payment details ready in the Apple Store app.

These new phones are a way for Apple to get people to buy a new phone to access Apple Intelligence features (only iPhone 15 Pro and newer devices get access, along with M1 or newer iPad and Macs). But with the complete Apple Intelligence rollout not slated until early 2025…your new iPhone 16 series won’t even have all the new AI features at launch. Come on, Apple.

Localized Canada English is coming in December for Apple Intelligence. That’s a three month delay for Canadians. Sure, you can use US English in the meantime but it may screw up your favourite spellings and more.

Are you upgrading to an iPhone 16 series device? Or are you going to wait for the expected iPhone 17 series, which is said to include a bigger upgrade?

I will be getting 16 Pro but like last year, I don’t like any of the colours (one of the reasons I skipped the 15 although my 12 Pro was due for the upgrade). Ever since the model 6, I was able to just walk in to the local store on the launch day or few days after and get the iPhone I wanted. So I plan to the same this time.

Just get a black one and throw it in a case

I’ve been doing that for years, get a black one and put it in a clear case. This year black is not really black, so anemic. Other than 6 that was silver and 12 that is blue, all my iPhones were black. I’m kinda getting tired of that colour but I wouldn’t mind if it was deep and glossy piano black like the X.
