Apple’s aging AirPods Max, which are about to reach four years old this December, did not get the refresh everybody was hoping for at last week’s special event.
AirPods Max only gave new colours and USB-C (replacing Lightning), and nothing else. Not even a price drop, with the MSRP still at $779.
But right now, Costco.ca shows the new AirPods Max colours with USB-C at $647.99, available for “presell”, with expected shipping from September 20-27. Midnight, Blue, Purple and Orange are available to add to cart.
That’s a $131 discount off the $779 retail price of a new Apple product at launch, which is not bad. But still, AirPods Max are getting old. You should not buy this unless you have lots of money and demand new colours for AirPods Max.
Now, this could likely be a pricing error as the original AirPods Max are also listed at the same $647.99 price. You could try your luck if you really want these. Consider this a ‘your mileage may vary’ deal.
AirPods Max headphones are pretty great, but considering the age, a price drop should be considered and you are better off buying the older colours at a price point of $500 to $550 on sale (AirPods Max are on sale for $549 at The Source right now), at the very least.
