FX’s Shogun Wins 18 Emmy Awards, Breaking Records for a Single Season

FX’s series Shogun has been awarded 18 Emmys, breaking all-time records for a single season of TV. The series has a combined 14 wins from the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys and four from the 76th Primetime Emmys broadcast, making it a bonafide smash hit critically.
Shogun, the series available on Disney+ in Canada, is based around feudal Japan. It stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai, Tadanobu Asano, Takehiro Hira, Tommy Bastow and Fumi Nikaido. The series is loosely based on the historical English navigator William Adams who became a samurai. It tells the story of the character Blackthorne, an English sailor shipwrecked in Japan and Lord Toranaga, a powerful daimyo.

In other notable Emmy news, Apple walked away with a few awards. For instance, Billy Crudup accepted the ‘Best Supporting Actor, Drama’ award for The Morning Show. The Gary Oldman-led series Slow Horses also got some love at the Emmys. The series won ‘Best Writing for a Drama Series’.
FX’s The Bear also broke records during the 2024 Emmy awards. While debatable if the series truly is a comedy, The Bear walked away with 11 total wins, including ‘Directing For a Comedy Series’, ‘Lead Actor in a Comedy Series’, ‘Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series’, ‘Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series’, and more.

Shogun is a really good show but u need to watch it on Disney+ for the subtitles unless u are fluent in Japanese and Portuguese. 😁

The show was excellent. Too bad Anna won't be around, looking forward for season 2. It will be hard to top season 1.
