In a recently released support video, Apple outlines several easy-to-follow methods to help you reclaim space on your device. The video emphasizes built-in tools in iOS that offer effective ways to manage and optimize your device’s storage.

To begin managing your storage, follow these steps:

  • Open your device and navigate to Settings.
  • Tap on General.
  • Select [Device] Storage.

Here, you’ll be able to see how much space is being used by different apps and content. You’ll also see a section called Recommendations that provides personalized tips for freeing up space.

These recommendations can include deleting large files, offloading apps you rarely use, or clearing unnecessary data.

If you need more room after following Apple’s suggestions, you have two main options when dealing with apps: offload or delete.

  • Offload App: This option allows you to remove the app from your device while keeping its documents and data intact. This is useful if you plan to reinstall the app later, as all your saved information will be restored when you do. For example, if you offload a game app, your game progress will still be saved.
  • Delete App: This will completely remove both the app and all its associated data. If you delete an app, you’ll need to download it again from the App Store if you decide you want it back. Some apps, like Apple Music, even give you the option to delete specific documents and data without removing the app entirely.

Freeing up storage is especially important if you’re trying to install a software update. Apple recommends regularly checking for updates by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

Installing updates can not only improve your device’s functionality but also optimize storage usage by clearing outdated system files.
