Fido Store in Downtown Victoria Closes After 30+ Years

One of the longest-running flagship Fido stores has closed in downtown Victoria, B.C.
The Rogers-owned Fido retail store on 743 Yates Street opened back in the 1990s and recently closed. This location opened when Fido was still independent of the ‘Big 3’ before being acquired by Rogers in 2004.
A sign recently posted on the storefront told customers the Fido location is “now closed” and directed customers to a Rogers store for help, with the nearest location at the Bay Centre just over a block away, according to iPhone in Canada readers. With so many Rogers and Fido resellers available, running a dedicated retail store is far more expensive than a small mall kiosk.
Numerous businesses have been closing in the downtown core lately, with some business owners citing high crime rates due to homeless encampments, particular the degradation of Pandora Avenue, beyond just rising rents (oh, and good luck trying to find parking). The bakery Tombo Eats across the street from the Fido store recently shut down, citing numerous vandalism instances as just one of the reasons.
We’ve reached out to Rogers for comment on the closing of this store and will update accordingly.
