Apple has reportedly begun sourcing OLED displays for the next generation of its iPhone SE, according to a recent report from Taiwanese supply chain publication DigiTimes (via MacRumors).
The report claims that BOE, along with other Chinese manufacturers, is providing these panels for the upcoming model, further solidifying earlier rumors about Apple’s move to OLED technology for its budget-friendly iPhone.
Although the DigiTimes report is brief and lacks extensive details, this latest development adds weight to existing speculation regarding the next iPhone SE. For several months, there have been rumors that BOE would play a key role in supplying OLED panels for the device.
This would also mark a significant upgrade for the SE line, which currently uses LCD screens. Moving to OLED would enhance display quality, offering better contrast, deeper blacks, and more vibrant colors—features that have become standard in Apple’s premium iPhone models.
In addition to the OLED display upgrade, industry insiders suggest that the new iPhone SE will resemble the iPhone 14 in design, adopting an edge-to-edge screen and notch display.
If the next iPhone SE indeed follows the design and technical specs of the iPhone 14, it would likely feature a 6.1-inch OLED display, a considerable increase from the current model’s 4.7-inch LCD screen.
Additionally, there is speculation that the next iPhone SE could come come equipped with a USB-C port, and feature an Action button, similar to what is found in Apple’s premium iPhone models.
