Threads Developing ‘Loops’ Community Feature, According to Discovered Code

Meta’s Threads is reportedly developing a new community feature called ‘Loops’. According to code in the latest Threads app update, Loops may be similar to the ‘Communities’ features on X (formally Twitter) or a subreddit.
As first reported by TechCrunch, developer Chris Messina discovered the Loops reference in the latest update. The code mentions the ability to join or leave Loop communities. Other fields of code refer to community names, bios, and other aspects.
Afterwards, leaker Alessandro Paluzzi found examples showing what Loops may look like within the Threads app. According to the leaker, Loops could offer a “shortcut to the composer and the home header.” A new speech bubble icon has also been discovered, which Paluzzi estimates is the new Loop button. This appears next to the notifications bell at the top of the app.
As of now, Meta and Threads have divulged too much information on the matter. TechCrunch reached out for comment and an unidentified Instagram spokesperson said the feature was “in early development.” However, it’s said that the feature isn’t being tested internally or externally “at this time.”
What’s interesting is how Threads may implement its Loops feature. As many will know, Threads does not use hashtags in the traditional sense. Instead, in Threads, hashtags are more of a hyperlinked tag for following topics. Loops could be Threads’ method of moving away from that practice while maintaining organized communities across the app.
