iPhone 16 Users Report Excessive Battery Drain After iOS 18 Update
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro users are expressing growing frustration over severe battery drain issues, with many reporting excessive and unexplained drops in battery life (via MacRumors).

These complaints are flooding online forums such as Reddit and Apple Support Communities, indicating a widespread issue among users of the latest iPhone models, as well as older devices running iOS 18.
The problem has been especially noticeable for users of the iPhone 16 models, where many are seeing their battery life plummet even when the device is idle.
Numerous iPhone 16 owners have shared their experiences of rapid battery drain. One user named “T1aaj” shared, “I own the 16 Pro, and my battery life drops from 100% to almost 60% halfway through the day with no heavy use. This definitely needs fixing—I should’ve stuck with my 15 Pro!”
Another user, “JulianL,” who upgraded to the iPhone 16 Pro Max from a 15 Pro Max, described a stark difference in performance.
“With iOS 18, my new 16 Pro Max gives me only 50-60% of the time between charges compared to my 15 Pro Max, even with all settings optimized for battery life. It’s really disappointing,” he noted, adding that he had turned off features like ProMotion and background app refresh to extend battery life, yet the issues persisted.
Other users report the battery drain is particularly pronounced when the phone is in standby mode. User “huanbrother” highlighted the erratic background activities of the iPhone 16 Pro, even when not in use.

One Reddit user conducted a side-by-side experiment with an iPhone 16 Pro and an iPhone 14 Pro, using both devices in the same way. The results showed that the iPhone 16 Pro dropped to 58% battery within 36 hours, while the iPhone 14 Pro was still at 85%, suggesting that the issue might be unique to the newer model.
Affected users have tried various troubleshooting methods in an attempt to alleviate the battery drain. Many have turned off ProMotion, disabled the Always-On display, restricted background app refresh, and even reset their phones entirely.
Some users reported slight improvements after these changes, but many continue to experience excessive battery drain.

I upgraded to the 16 Pro and I’ve been getting solid battery life. No weird drop offs fwiw
Same for me. iPhone 16 Pro. My battery life has been great. In idle mode like overnight it barely drops in percentage drastically
Because we all know Reddit is a major source of evidence based facts and information.
Why do we always hear about when things go wrong but we never hear about when the issue is resolved?
I have 16 ProMax with no issues. Have battery set at 90% max charge. Heavy user during the day and still have 20% by end of day.
iPhone 15pro max on iOS 18.0.1 – no battery or other issues.
