Tesla Apple Watch App is Coming Soon, Reveals Code
It looks like a native Tesla Apple Watch app is actually coming, according to code discovered in the automaker’s iPhone app.
Back in March, when a customer reached out to Tesla CEO Elon Musk about creating an Apple Watch app, he responded with “sure”. With “Elon time”, seven months later we now have evidence an Apple Watch is coming, reports Tesla North.
Code uncovered by Tesla App iOS reveals there is mention of “watch app pairing state remotely signing add key command,” which makes it clear an Apple Watch app is in the works. Also new? The Tesla app is now using the iOS 18 SDK.
Benefits of an Apple Watch Tesla app? It will allow the wearable to become a phone key, which means if owners don’t have their iPhone, the Apple Watch can authenticate using Bluetooth as well. This is handy if owners lose their iPhones or somehow get locked out of their cars.
Right now, third-party apps Tesla companion apps such as Tessie (includes free trial), include an Apple Watch app that offers full control of your car. Tessie uses Tesla’s API so logging in is fully secure.
With a native Tesla Apple Watch app, owners can use an app directly from the company and not rely on third-party apps. As to when an official launch is coming for this Tesla Apple Watch app? That remains to be seen, but the code in the iOS is clear that it’s in development. Maybe the Apple Watch app could emerge as part of Tesla’s annual holiday software update, which usually brings a slew of goodies.
