Interac Down, e-Transfers Delayed Across Canada [Update]
The Interac network went down earlier today and as of Friday night, the downtime has not been fully restored yet.
Interac going down means e-transfers aren’t being completed. So far, the official @Interac account on X has only sent four replies to customers, with no official status update yet.
The most recent reply was at 2:09pm PT, with @Interac saying, “We understand that some users are experiencing delays with the Interac e-Transfer Service. We are working to address this issue.”
Down Detector also shows there was a huge surge of complaints about downtime for Interac at around 8am.
The downtime has been affecting rent payments being sent, for example. “7.43pm and still no update from @INTERAC. We are sitting ducks at @chexyrent trying to pay thousands people’s rent today. We are not alone. Can there at least be an official announcement people can send to landlords to prevent eviction. @JustinTrudeau @cafreeland do something,” said Liza Akhvledziani Carew.
Today is November 1, and that’s when rent is due for most people, and paying with Interac is not working at the moment since there’s a major delay.
Chexy is a Canadian fintech platform that enables renters to pay rent with credit or debit cards, allowing them to earn rewards and build credit, even if their landlords don’t accept card payments. The company issued the following statement, saying, “We have received reports from Interac regarding a national Interac outage affecting some e-transfers, including rent payments. Our team is monitoring the situation closely, and we are working with Interac to restore full service.”

Update Nov. 1, 8:18pm PT: an Interac spokesperson told iPhone in Canada the following statement: “We can confirm that the delays experienced earlier on the Interac e-Transfer Service have been resolved and the Service response times have returned to normal for new transactions. Earlier transactions that experienced delays will be cleared up shortly.”

If you're landlord doesn't give you grace for small delays you need to talk to a lawyer as that's a slumlord who needs to pay up and is the same type to price goug rent
