Apple Confirms iPhone 14 Plus Camera Flaw: Check if You Qualify
Apple is offering free repairs for a small number of iPhone 14 Plus devices that may have a faulty rear camera, and it applies to Canadians as well.
Some users have reported that the camera preview doesn’t work on these devices, which were made between April 10, 2023, and April 28, 2024.
If you have an iPhone 14 Plus with this problem, you can use Apple’s serial number checker to see if your device qualifies for the repair program. Only the iPhone 14 Plus is covered, not other iPhone models.
If your device is eligible, you can get it fixed at no cost by visiting an Apple Authorized Service Provider, setting up an appointment at an Apple Store, or arranging mail-in service through Apple Support.
Apple recommends backing up your data before the repair. If your phone has other damage, like a cracked back glass, you might have to pay to get that fixed first.
This repair program does not extend the iPhone’s warranty but covers affected iPhone 14 Plus models for three years from the original purchase date. If you’ve already paid for a rear camera repair due to this issue, you can reach out to Apple about a possible refund.
The iPhone 14 Plus was launched in September 2022, alongside the iPhone 14. Both phones added a new 12MP main camera featuring a larger sensor (ƒ/1.5 aperture and 1.9 µm pixels), an Ultra Wide camera, and a “Photonic Engine for a giant leap in low-light performance.”
Aside from this service program that was launched on November 1, 2024, the most recent program was back in April 2022, related to the Apple Watch Series 6 to fix a blank screen issue.
