Apple AirPods Max 2 Upgrade Seems Unlikely, Here’s Why
For fans of Apple’s AirPods Max headphones, many were hoping the company would release a major update, but all we got this year were some new colours and USB-C.
So what’s the future for AirPods Max, which are priced at a whopping $779 CAD still? Well, according to insider Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, a future upgrade doesn’t look like it’s coming. Why?
Gurman said on Sunday, “At this point, Apple has no real plan to meaningfully update AirPods Max.” He went on to say, “the headphones aren’t a hot enough seller to justify new [research and development], but they’re also not a big enough flop to kill them.”
“If you’ve been to an overpriced gym in LA/NYC, you can see the $550 device has a market,” said Gurman.
AirPods Max first debuted in 2019 and are powered by the company’s H1 chip. Despite the minor colour refresh, Apple still has the courage to charge full price for them five years later. And loyal fans continue to buy them.
The great thing about AirPods Max is they are dead easy to pair with an Apple TV (thanks to iCloud) for late-night TV watching and sound pretty good.
How to save on AirPods Max? Right now, Amazon has the new AirPods Max for $647, saving you $131.
