Apple Delays HomeKit Robot Vacuum Support to Early 2025

It’s been recently discovered that Apple has quietly delayed the release of robot vacuum support via HomeKit. Initially, the support was due to be released later this year.

It’s been reported that Apple has tweaked a footnote within the Home app webpage sometime recently. MacRumors initially discovered that Apple now notes HomeKit’s support of robot vacuums “will be available in early 2025.”

During WWDC 2024, Apple revealed that this feature would arrive during the early days of iOS 18. It was predicted that it may be released with iOS 18.2. However, that’s no longer the case it seems.

When available, Apple users will be able to use HomeKit for smart vacuum automation. This includes the ability to use Siri to begin a vacuuming cycle. Alternatively, voice controls via HomeKit could be used to clean specific rooms of the home. Apple states that the Home app will support the “core functionality” of smart vacuums. This includes standard vacuuming, mopping (when applicable), power control, cleaning modes, and charging. At launch, this feature will only support English (U.S.) exclusively.

Unfortunately, beyond the indication of early 2025, there’s no firm window on when HomeKit’s smart vacuums will become available. It may be a matter of releasing alongside iOS 18.3. However, there’s always the possibility of it being longer.
