Tesla appears to be preparing to expand its Tesla Theatre feature with additional streaming platforms, according to code uncovered in the Tesla app by developer @Tesla_iOS_App.
The potential update suggests services like TVLand, MTV, Paramount, and HBO GO could soon be accessible, offering Tesla drivers more entertainment options during charging or waiting times, reports Tesla North.
Out of the services named explicitly, only Paramount+ is officially in Canada. HBO content in Canada is only available through Bell Media’s Crave. But Canada’s telecoms may not be forward-thinking enough to land a Crave app for Tesla vehicles. Heck, Crave doesn’t even have 4K streaming yet or support Dolby Atmos.
The discovered code includes a function called “parsePossibleSources,” pointing to Tesla’s efforts to better integrate the Tesla app with its in-car infotainment system. This would make it easier for users to access streaming services directly from their vehicles.
Tesla Theatre, already available in the company’s vehicles, allows users to stream content from platforms like Netflix, YouTube, and Disney+. Access to these services requires a premium connectivity subscription to access when you don’t have a Wi-Fi connection. Drivers can sign in with existing accounts for streaming services and start watching immediately.
This discovery follows a trend of accurate predictions by @Tesla_iOS_App. For instance, hints of an Apple Watch app were previously uncovered in the app’s code, and Tesla officially launched the feature yesterday as part of its 2024 Holiday Update, which is expected this week.
