How to Use Vehicle Motion Cues in iOS to Reduce Motion Sickness
Starting in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, Apple has introdued a new Vehicle Motion Cues feature designed for passengers using their devices in moving vehicles.

The tool offers a great way to minimize motion sickness by providing dynamic visual cues that align with the vehicle’s movement.
Vehicle Motion Cues display animated dots along the edges of the screen to reflect the motion of the vehicle without disrupting your ongoing activities on the device. These cues aim to reduce discomfort associated with visual-motion misalignment, which is a common cause of motion sickness.
Apple emphasizes that Vehicle Motion Cues should be used responsibly and not while operating a vehicle or in situations where full attention to safety is required. For the best experience, passengers should be seated facing forward.
Follow these simple steps to activate this feature on your iPhone or iPad:
Open the Settings app.
- Navigate to Accessibility > Motion.
- Tap Show Vehicle Motion Cues, and then select your preferred option:
- Automatic: Dots appear when your device detects motion in a vehicle and disappear when the motion stops.
- Manual: Manually control the appearance of motion cues through the Control Center.
You can add the Vehicle Motion Cues toggle to your Control Center for quick access.
While this feature is designed to enhance comfort for passengers, it is not intended for use by drivers or in situations where it might distract from safety.
The following video shows how you can use the new Vehicle Motion Cues feature on your iOS device.
