Pluto TV Tops the Charts as Canada’s #1 Free Streaming Service

Free ad-supported streaming service Pluto TV is celebrating its second anniversary in Canada this month with impressive growth. The service is a subsidiary of media giant Paramount.
The platform now has 243 channels (double its launch offering) and more than 50,000 hours of free live and on-demand content, including movies, shows, news, and music.
Pluto TV is now Canada’s most popular free advertising-supported streaming television (FAST) service, according to data from Media Technology Monitor, from December 3, 2024.
“Canadians are clearly and consistently connecting with Pluto TV’s diverse content offering,” said Katrina Kowalski, SVP Content Strategy & Acquisitions, Pluto TV International, in a statement.
Pluto TV’s popularity is soaring, with Canadians streaming 1.7 billion viewing minutes per month, up 40% from last year. The service is especially connecting with younger audiences, as viewers aged 18-49 now make up more than half of Pluto TV’s audience.
Pluto TV continues to expand its lineup with new partnerships and holiday specials such as:
- CBC Local News Channels: New CBC News Toronto, CBC News BC, and Radio-Canada INFO channels bring local and up-to-the-minute Canadian news.
- NBCUniversal Shows: New classics include Will & Grace, The A-Team, Becker, and Quantum Leap.
Here are the Pluto TV Holiday Specials:
- Season’s Greetings Category features holiday movies like Christmas at Dollywood and Love in Winterland.
- Pluto TV Advent Calendar reveals a new holiday movie every night until December 25.
- Pluto TV Kids Movie Club runs from December 23 to January 5, offering kid-friendly movies all day.

She wants everyone to use Pluto.
Apparently, Pluto like Netflix doesn't like it when you use a VPN. Sometimes it works other times it doesn't. What's crazy is how in the US people pay around $80 USD a month for YouTube TV.
Personally, if I had a VPN I would not be bothered with Pluto. If it came pre-installed in my SmartTV I probably wouldn't watch it either.
Trying to understand your complaint, but I'm not getting it. Are you upset that you can't watch the US Pluto offerings from Canada? Is it the other way around? Did you want to watch the Canadian version while travelling? And what does people paying for YouTube TV have to do with any of this, considering Pluto is free?
Pluto doesn’t work for me either when I use cellular data. But it’s my ip address. It says I’m in France when I’m in Canada using Canadian data. How? I use a data plan for Canada from a Global eSIM provider located in France. Ironically they use the Bell network. lol. Exclusively. lol. Imagine telling that to the CRTC – a Canadian to get affordable data for his iPad has to buy a data plan for Canada from a company in France who has an exclusive contract with Bell for data in Canada because Bell in a Canada doesn’t have an affordable iPad data plan for Canadians, lol. Makes your head spin!
