X Raises Pricing for Premium Plus Subscription by Nearly 40 Percent

X (formerly Twitter) has increased its subscription pricing for its Premium Plus tier. The latest increase in prices in Canada skyrockets nearly 40 percent. The reason for the meteoric bump in price is cited as because of as well as other initiatives.

As X confirms in a blog post, prices for the Premium Plus tier have increased in many global markets as of December 21st, 2024. In Canada, the price of the monthly subscription on the web is now $29/month or $299 annually. X’s Premium Plus subscription gives all basic benefits such as edit post access, longer video publishing, Grok 2 access and more. However, Premium Plus also includes an entirely ad-free experience, a larger reply boost, and the ability to write articles on the platform.

According to the company, the shift to making Premium Plus a completely ad-free experience is one of the reasons for the latest price hike. Moving forward, subscribers will have “an uninterrupted browsing experience.” On top of this, Premium Plus subscribers gain access to higher priority support, new features like Radar, and higher limits with Grok. Finally, with a recent shift in its revenue model, X claims that the creator program rewards quality content and engagement over ad views. Thus, the higher price in Premium Plus subscriptions “contributes to this new, more equitable system.”

In the blog post, X states that as long as your billing starts before January 20th, 2025, you’ll be charged at the current rate prior to the newly raised one. However, the price hike will effectively kick in on the next billing cycle after that date. This is effectively the biggest price increase since Elon Musk purchased the company in 2022.

X’s Basic and Premium tier subscription prices remain unaffected by the latest changes. In Canada, X’s Basic subscription is $3.75/month on the web while Premium is $10/month.
