How to Listen to Apple Music Together with SharePlay on iPhone

Starting in iOS 18, you can play and control music together with SharePlay and Apple Music, even if your friends don’t have an Apple Music subscription.

If one person has an Apple Music subscription, everyone can use the Apple Music app on their iPhone to play and control music on HomePod, Apple TV, Bluetooth speakers, or in the car.

Here’s what you need, and how to start and join a SharePlay music session.

To start a SharePlay music session, you need:

  • A subscription to Apple Music
  • An iPhone updated to the latest version of iOS
  • Bluetooth turned on for your iPhone

To join a SharePlay music session, you need:

  • An iPhone updated to the latest version of iOS
  • Bluetooth turned on for your iPhone

To set up a SharePlay music session:

  1. Connect your iPhone to a HomePod, Apple TV, CarPlay, or Bluetooth speaker.
  2. Open the Apple Music app on your iPhone or in CarPlay.
  3. Go to Now Playing:
  4. On your iPhone, tap the player at the bottom of your screen.
  5. In CarPlay, Tap Now Playing.
  6. Tap SharePlay.
  7. Have others use their iPhone to scan the QR code on your screen.
  8. Tap Approve to allow someone to join your SharePlay session.
