Critics Slam Apple’s AI News Alerts as “Out of Control”
According to a BBC News reports, Apple’s latest artificial intelligence (AI)-powered news summary feature is drawing significant criticism following a string of high-profile errors.

The technology, part of the Apple Intelligence suite, aims to simplify breaking news notifications by summarizing content. However, inaccuracies have led to calls for its removal, with critics labeling the system as “out of control.”
The controversy intensified when Apple’s AI summaries generated incorrect headlines. One such instance falsely claimed that an accused murderer, Luigi Mangione, had died by suicide—an assertion entirely unfounded. More recently, the AI erroneously announced Luke Littler as the PDC World Darts Championship winner before the tournament began and falsely reported tennis star Rafael Nadal had come out as gay.
The errors have prompted the BBC, whose content was misrepresented in these alerts, to demand immediate action. “It is critical that Apple addresses these issues urgently, as the accuracy of news directly impacts public trust,” a BBC representative stated.
Journalistic organizations have echoed these concerns, urging Apple to withdraw the feature. Alan Rusbridger, former editor of The Guardian, described the technology as “clearly not ready” and a threat to already fragile public trust in the media. Meanwhile, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) criticized Apple’s response as inadequate.
“Shifting the responsibility of verifying information onto users exacerbates confusion in an already complex news ecosystem,” said RSF’s Vincent Berthier.

On Monday, Apple acknowledged the concerns, stating that a software update would clarify when summaries are AI-generated. The company also emphasized that the feature remains in beta, available exclusively on its latest devices.
“We continuously improve Apple Intelligence features with user feedback,” Apple said in a statement. “Receiving AI summaries is optional, and a forthcoming update will enhance transparency for users.”
Critics, however, argue that such updates fail to address the core issue: the unreliability of generative AI in producing accurate news summaries.

And this is how far behind Apple is in terms of AI…
Can't wait for Google to do likewise. It's AI summaries are already fabulously inept…
Yet more proof that AI will never be able to replace humans much as these big capitalist companies might want us to believe.
Talk about absurd. But don't worry, when Musk updates all teslas with more of it it'll be the cats pajamas….according to the first lady
