Google Launches Home APIs Beta to Boost Smart Home Innovation
Google has just announced the public developer beta of its Home APIs to equip developers with the essential tools and resources to create more intuitive and interconnected smart home applications.

Available now for Android, with iOS support coming soon, the Home APIs are designed to foster richer integrations, enhanced device controls, and seamless automation for users.
Since unveiling the Home APIs during I/O 2024, nearly 2,000 developers have shown interest in exploring these powerful tools. Several early-access partners, including Eve, Nanoleaf, LG, ADT, and Tuya Smart, have already leveraged the platform to release new apps and features.
At CES 2025, key players like Hisense and Aqara showcased how the Home APIs enabled personalized automation tailored to different aspects of users’ lives. Meanwhile, SDMC demonstrated the potential of the Device & Structure API, which allows users to control connected devices directly from their custom applications.
Central to Google’s vision is its continued investment in Matter, the open standard uniting smart home ecosystems. This foundational framework aims to ensure fast, secure, and reliable device connectivity, with a particular focus on simplifying cross-brand compatibility.
Over 40 million devices, including Google Nest products, Chromecasts, Android 14-powered Google TV devices, and eligible LG TVs, now serve as hubs for Matter. These hubs provide remote access and local control for Matter devices, making adoption easier for consumers.

Google is also addressing challenges related to Thread Border Router (TBR) requirements for Matter devices by partnering with MediaTek. The innovative Trinity chip (MT7903) combines Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, and Thread into a single SoC.
This simplifies Matter integration for device manufacturers while also lowering production costs.
