Roku Hits Milestone: 90 Million Streaming Households
Streaming TV platform Roku has reached a major milestone: more than 90 million households now use Roku to stream their favourite shows and movies.
This puts Roku in nearly half of all U.S. homes with high-speed internet, cementing its position as a leader in streaming, announced the company on Wednesday.
The platform has been the best-selling TV operating system in the U.S. for over five years and is also the top choice in Canada and Mexico (according to Circana data). Streaming has become the main way people watch TV, and Roku’s simple interface and built-in options on many TVs have made it an easy choice.
“Roku’s extensive scale sets us apart in the streaming industry, with more engagement than any other TV OS platform in the U.S.,” said Anthony Wood, Founder and CEO, Roku, in a statement to iPhone in Canada. “Thanks to our laser focus on simplifying and enhancing the streamer’s journey, Roku is the preferred choice for millions of viewers. I’m grateful to our customers, partners, advertisers, and employees for helping us reach this notable milestone.”
In 2024, Roku marked its 10th year making Roku TVs and 15 years since launching its first streaming device. Over the years, it has introduced features like Backdrops, which turns your TV into digital art, and Smart Picture, which adjusts the screen quality automatically. It’s also super easy to listen to Roku with your AirPods and other wireless earphone by using the Roku mobile app.
