If you’ve recently noticed an unexpected chime coming from your AirPods Pro (2nd generation) charging case, rest assured—this is an intentional feature designed by Apple (via MacRumors).

Apple has integrated a subtle chime into the AirPods Pro 2 charging case to ensure optimal performance of the microphones and speakers. This periodic sound serves as a diagnostic tool, confirming that these components are functioning correctly, which is essential for features like high-quality hearing tests.

According to Apple Support, “To help ensure that your AirPods microphones and speakers are operating at their best… your AirPods may periodically play a quiet chime when they’re in their charging case.”

Beyond the diagnostic checks, the charging case emits sounds in several scenarios:

  • Charging Initiation: When you connect the case to a power source via Lightning or place it on a wireless charging pad, it plays a chime to indicate that charging has commenced.
  • Low Battery Alert: The case emits a sound when the battery level is low, prompting you to recharge it.
  • Pairing Confirmation: A chime sounds when pairing with your device is successfully completed.

For those who prefer a quieter experience can disable these sounds by following these steps:

  1. Ensure your AirPods are connected to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Open the Settings app on your device.
  3. Tap on the name of your AirPods near the top of the screen.
  4. Scroll down and toggle off the switch labeled “Enable Charging Case Sounds.”

If you continue to hear unexplained chimes or sounds from your AirPods Pro 2 charging case after disabling the feature, it may indicate a hardware issue. In such cases, it’s advisable to contact Apple Support.
