OnePlus Opens New State-of-the-Art Health Laboratory in China

OnePlus has held the grand opening of its new Health Laboratory, located in Guangdong, China. The lab is said to deliver “data-driven insights and user-centric approaches that impact people’s healthy lifestyles,” according to the company.

The state-of-the-art Health Laboratory is said to be a 4,840 square metre facility that’ll work towards advancing OnePlus’ health and wellness technology. The company invests quite a bit into supporting health and wellness initiatives across its OnePlus Health app as well as the OnePlus Watch 2 and OnePlus Watch 2R. The new Health Laboratory is said to represent the long-term commitments of the company.

“Innovation thrives when it aligns with user needs. The Health Laboratory is well-positioned to have a meaningful impact on people’s healthy lifestyles while we embrace technology, data-driven insights, and user-centric approaches, therefore paving the way for a healthier, more connected future,” Dr. Zijing Zeng, Head of the Health Laboratory said in a press release.

Development of the Health Laboratory began in the beginning of 2023. The company invested €13.5million (around $20 million CAD) to design and construct the facility. Over 100 R&D testing equipment can be found on site. OnePlus has included pieces of sports environment simulation equipment, energy metabolism, motion capture, health, optics, and other sub-fields. The facility is home to 20 sub-labs built around sports, cardiovascular health, sleep, and hardware. Of course, the lab also employs many medical professionals and multidisciplinary software and hardware engineers, comprising its R&D team.

OnePlus’ Health Laboratory includes a test area for aerobic exercises. 900 meters in size, the R&D can simulate running, cycling, rowing machines, skiing and more. To support the team’s research, there are 20 pieces of professional-grade simulation equipment, such as cycling platforms, big multi-functional treadmills, rowing machines, climbing machines, etc. The 1,000-square-meter ball sports laboratory uses 24 infrared cameras to record markers and examine body motions.

As wearable technology, including the OnePlus Watch 2, can monitor blood oxygen and altitude, OnePlus’ research teams are looking deeper into cardiovascular health is supported by the health oratory. The biochemical lab focuses on developing and testing chemical ingredients for sensors.
