Rogers has parted ways with Breakfast Television hosts Sid Seixeiro and Meredith Shaw, marking a major shakeup for the long-running 6am morning show on CityTV.

In a statement to iPhone in Canada, a Rogers Sports & Media spokesperson confirmed the departures and hinted at upcoming changes, saying, “We’re invested in Breakfast Television’s success and leadership in Canadian morning television, and we’ll announce exciting new plans in the coming weeks. As part of this evolution, we have parted ways with Sid Seixeiro and Meredith Shaw. We thank them for sharing their passion and energy with audiences every morning and wish them both the very best.”

Seixeiro, who joined BT in 2021 after a long tenure at Sportsnet (remember Tim & Sid?) , confirmed the news on X, thanking viewers and his former employer. He found out the news ahead of Super Bowl weekend. Long-time followers of Seixeiro will remember him from the early days of The Score.

“Hey guys. Confirming my last day at @breakfasttv was this past Friday. Thanks for letting me into your homes and for being so kind. Also, thank you to @Rogers for over 13 years of support. They allowed me incredible freedom on-air and I’m grateful. God bless. We’ll talk soon.”

He also praised Shaw, calling her a “tremendous teammate and friend,” adding, “She challenged me every day and made me a better broadcaster. She’s just getting started.”

Shaw only joined BT in 2023 (replacing Dina Pugliese who was a 16-year co-host of BT), released her own statement on Instagram. “Not gonna lie, this is hard. Deep breath. Thank you for welcoming me into your homes & hearts. Cohosting @breakfasttelevision with @sid_seixeiro has been such an honour, and I’m so proud of the television we have made.”

Rogers says new details on the future of Breakfast Television will be shared in the coming weeks.

Traditional media is hurting and one way to stem the bleeding is to cut veteran hosts and their larger salaries. We’ve seen this happen over the years from other major media outlets including Bell Media, when they let go of veteran CTV News anchor Lisa LaFlamme.

Overall, Rogers saw its net income in the most recent fourth quarter increase to $558 million, up 70% (from $329 million) from the year-ago quarter.

Too bad they won't shake up their Xfinity TV hardware and software, now looping for 8 hours or more.

Have you tried the Telus TV platform? It’s even worse, if you can believe it!
