How to Watch Today’s PlayStation State of Play and What to Expect

Today, Sony is hosting a new PlayStation State of Play virtual showcase. Announced this week, the imminent State of Play will be used to highlight new announcements and updates on already announced titles.

Via the PlayStation Blogit’s been announced that the upcoming State of Play will run for over 40 minutes, making it quite a substantial show. “Tune in live for news and updates on great games coming to PS5,” the blog post says. “The show celebrates a creative and unique selection of exciting games from studios around the world.”

Unfortunately for eager viewers, PlayStation does not detail what the State of Play will entail aside from the aforementioned message. However, given the timing of the State of Play, it’s likely that Sony will use this time to outline a bit more of its calendar year on PlayStation 5.

Regarding marquee titles arriving on the console this year, many eyes are on Ghost of Yōtei from Sucker Punch Productions. Announced during the last State of Play in September 2024, the open-world sequel to Ghost of Tsushima was given a release window of 2025. In addition, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach from Kojima Productions is also slated for 2025. Off the heels of the announcement of the State of Play, director Hideo Kojima announced he’ll be hosting a Death Stranding 2: On the Beach panel during SXSW on March 9.

Of course, there are multiple other known quantities slated to release on PlayStation 5 coming from first-party studios. This includes Fairgame$ from Montreal-based studio Haven Interactive Studios. The Bungie-developed Marathon is also awaiting a release date on PlayStation 5 and PC. Granted, both are being developed as Games as a Service (GaaS). PlayStation’s GaaS ventures didn’t exactly pan out in 2024 after Concord was pulled from the market two weeks after launch due to a lack of interest. Firewalk Studios subsequently faced closure due to the cancelled project.

However, 2025 and beyond bodes well for PlayStation. Following the 30th anniversary of the brand, this year is just about as good of a time as any to begin shaping the second half of the PlayStation 5 console lifecycle. With many other first-party studios left to step up to the plate, it’ll be interesting to see how many get a chance to shine during the State of Play.

If you’re aiming to tune in and watch the State of Play, the event begins promptly at 5 PM ET/2 PM PT. It’ll be live-streamed on PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.
