Alrighty Pokémon fans, here’s everything announced today from the company’s Pokémon Day 2025 and its special livestream.

The event marked the anniversary of the franchise’s debut on February 27, 1996 (that’s 29 years!), and introduced major announcements, including a first look at Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the reveal of Pokémon Champions, and updates to the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) and animated series. There was a tonne of announcements so here’s a simple breakdown of what you need to know.

What’s New?

Pokémon Champions – A New Way to Battle

  • Pokémon Champions is a new game developed by The Pokémon Works and GAME FREAK, aiming to bring competitive Pokémon battles to more players than ever.
  • The game will connect with Pokémon HOME, allowing Trainers to use Pokémon from past games.
  • It will be available on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A – A Fresh Adventure in Lumiose City

  • Set to release in late 2025, Pokémon Legends: Z-A takes players to Lumiose City, where they will explore Wild Zones and befriend Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile as their first Pokémon.
  • The game introduces real-time battle mechanics, allowing Trainers and Pokémon to move freely.
  • Mega Evolution will play a key role in battles, offering a powerful twist to strategy.

Expanded Language Support for Latin America

  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Pokémon Champions, and the Pokémon TCG will now be available in Latin American Spanish, making Pokémon more accessible to fans in the region.

Pokémon TCG Pocket and Mega Evolution Updates

  • The Pokémon TCG Pocket app has surpassed 100 million downloads, with a special Triumphant Lightbooster pack launching Feb. 28, 2025.
  • Ranked Matches are coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket in March 2025.
  • The Pokémon TCG is bringing back Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, including Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex, with new expansions launching in 2025.

Pokémon Concierge Returns in September 2025

  • The Pokémon Concierge animated series will debut new episodes on Netflix in September of this year. A teaser is now available, showcasing new Pokémon joining the series.
  • Fans can watch the first four episodes on Pokémon’s official YouTube channel for free until March 9.
