WhatsApp is Getting Meta AI Widget, According to Latest Beta

WhatsApp has recieved support for a Meta AI widget for the app on Android. This was discovered thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.6.14 software.

As first reported by WABetaInfo, there appears to be a Meta AI widget in development for WhatsApp. The widget is said to be designed to streamline the interactions between users and Meta AI. Rather than have to navigate to the app and open it to use Meta AI, the in-development widget allows users to access this feature from the Home Screen.

This feature is now being made available for those with access to the 2.25.6.14 beta on Android. Once it’s accessible and installed on the device, users can interact with the Meta AI widget alongside the Camera and Voice widgets. With this shortcut, users can type or ask Meta AI any query they desire. Whether it’s via text or voice, Meta AI can interact with users through the widget rather than directly through WhatsApp’s UI. Users can also send Meta AI images through the widget.

By using the Meta AI chatbot through the widget, users can gain access to all the features and perks offered without the extra steps of interacting with the WhatsApp app. This should help not only with access to Meta AI but also simplify the process of having your query answered. However, because the feature is still in beta, it’s unclear if it’ll change in any meaningful way through the final stages of development.

The new widget is available through the latest WhatsApp beta program for Android from the Google Play Store. It’s unclear when the feature will roll out to general users. However, the cadence typically results in a larger rollout of a feature a few weeks after release as a beta.

Recently, it’s been reported that a standalone Meta AI app is in development. While built into various Meta-owned apps like  Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, a Meta AI app could help the AI tech stand on its own against the likes of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. No release information is set for the app.
