Bluesky Version 1.99 Adds Longer Video Upload Support, DM Filters, and More

Bluesky is rolling out its Version 1.99 update, adding new features and support to global users. The X (formerly Twitter) rival is now supporting three-minute-long video uploads, the ability and filter DM requests from unknown users, and more.

As announced by the company, the Version 1.99 update is now available. Once installed, users will have access to a handful of new features. The biggest one for many will be the improvement of video uploads. Prior to this, video uploads on Bluesky were limited to 60 seconds in duration. With the latest software upgrade, users can upload videos of up to three minutes. “People said it couldn’t be done, but we cracked the technology: Videos can now be up to 3 minutes long!” the company states.

On top of that, Bluesky is now making it easier to differentiate between DMs you’ve received from those you’re actively following and from unknown users. With a new Chat Requests menu, you can see messages from unknown users. You’ll then be given the option to accept, reject, or ignore these conversations. Currently, this is very similar to DM feature support across X and Instagram.

A minor update is being made to how users are able to mute accounts. Moving forward, users can simply tap the three-dot menu and select ‘Mute account’ to mute a user directly from a post. This is a streamlined approach that prevents users from having to navigate to another user’s account page to mute them.

Finally, Bluesky is adding 3 new community translations. With Version 1.99, the social media platform is now supporting Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, and Esperanto.

As of March, Bluesky has a total of 32.9 million users. The platform still pales in comparison to X or even Meta’s Threads. However, with each passing month, Bluesky is getting closer to closing the gap.
