Apple AirPods to Get Live Translation Feature, Says Report
Apple is reportedly preparing a new feature for its AirPods that will allow real-time translation of in-person conversations, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The update is expected later this year as part of an upcoming AirPods software upgrade, which will be linked to iOS 19.
The feature will work by using the iPhone to process conversations in different languages. For example, if an English speaker is talking to someone in Spanish, the iPhone will translate the Spanish speech and relay it through the AirPods in English. The English speaker’s response will then be translated into Spanish and played aloud through the iPhone.
While rival earbuds like Google Pixel Buds have offered similar translation features for years, Apple’s move promises to bring a more seamless experience to its AirPods users. Let’s wait and see if this implementation between AirPods and iPhone works quick enough.
The translation feature is part of a broader software overhaul from Apple. The company is working on its most significant updates yet for iOS and macOS, aiming to refresh the user experience for a new generation of devices. Apple is also enhancing its existing translation technology within iOS 19.
Last year we saw AirPods Pro 2 get hearing tests and a hearing aid function (not in Canada yet).
As what’s next for AirPods Pro? A rumoured third-gen is said to have built-in cameras that will leverage AI to analyze your environment.
