Apple Plans Major Software Overhaul for iPhone, iPad, Mac: Report
Apple is preparing one of its biggest software updates in years, aiming to revamp the user interface across the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on Monday.
Set to roll out later this year, the overhaul will introduce a fresh design for icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons, while simplifying navigation and controls. The update is said to be inspired by the design of Apple’s Vision Pro headset software, visionOS.
The changes will come with iOS 19 and iPadOS 19—code-named “Luck”—and macOS 16, known as “Cheer.” This marks the most significant update to Mac software since macOS Big Sur in 2020 and the largest iPhone software redesign since iOS 7 in 2013.
A major focus of the redesign is to make Apple’s operating systems more consistent and cohesive across devices.
The updates are expected to be a key highlight at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, says Gurman.
We’ve heard this before. Apple doesn’t make any major software updates as iOS has remained relatively the same. Will we actually see a huge shift? If anything, iPadOS needs more work for it to operate like macOS. People are tired of a half-baked OS on iPads that have the latest Apple Silicon updates.

Yep, definitely agree with the editorializing on this article. "The biggest update since iOS 7" is something we've heard at least twice before already. I'm all for them innovating, but they need to add better functionality for widgets. Also, how about delivering on last year's promised Apple Intelligence? Siri is as dumb as ever and I've had the Intelligence features turned off for months because they weren't intelligent at all.
Expect more retarded behavior from Apple. Moving basic features like messaging and facetime to a separate section called apps which is at the very bottom of the page. Then of course the password section has moved as well and is inferior compared to before. Many certificates or profiles no longer work as well all thanks to Cook and licking Trump's ring. In 6 months everyone will be shocked at the price tag of the iPhone 17. Will Canadians still say "buy Canadian? Nope, there are always exceptions.
"inspired by the design of vision os" so they're going back to round catalina-era icons and putting a blurry version of your wallpaper behind the ui? this is truly re-arranging the deck chairs and calling it something new.
also calling it now that they'll use extremely superficial visual tweaks as an opportunity to de-optimize and introduce heavy lag on all but the newest hardware. "this pointless change is too demanding for your current machine, and we hope you forgot that hardware has been doing this all easily for ages"
