Nintendo Switch 2 Canadian Pricing and Launch Date Revealed

Nintendo held its long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, announcing the hardware will be launching on June 5 for $629 CAD with preorders opening up on April 9th. The 60-minute Direct covered everything from hardware innovations to first-party game announcements and third-party title support.

To start, the Nintendo Switch 2 is confirmed to be sporting a large 7.9-inch LCD screen, capable of offering 1080p resolution while playing in handheld mode. The new dock features 4K video output at 60fps or 1080p at 120fps on compatible TVs and displays. Nintendo confirms that with two integrated USB-C ports, the Nintendo Switch 2 can be charged while in tabletop mode.

The new hardware features redesigned Joy-Cons that are confirmed to attach magnetically. Joy-Con 2 controllers also support mouse-like optical sensors which will be supported on specific games. Nintendo Switch 2 also launches with $256GB of storage, a substantial increase from the 32GB base of the original Nintendo Switch. The hardware is also poised to support spatial 3D audio.

During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the company revealed GameChat, a new feature developed for the hardware. GameChat is ostensibly an online party chat feature, made for Nintendo Switch 2. Up to 12 people can play games and use voice chat on the hardware while playing games online. Using the ‘C’ button on the console, players can use the built-in microphone for voice chat functions. With the use of the Nintendo Switch 2 camera, which is being sold separately, players can play with a video chat feed. GameChat is being made for free until March 2026. Afterwards, players must have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Speaking of Nintendo Switch Online, starting on June 5, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members will be given access to a growing collection of Nintendo GameCube titles. To start, F-Zero GXThe Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Soulcalibur II will be available. Plus, Nintendo is launching a special Nintendo CameCube controller to be used on Nintendo Switch 2.

On the software front, Nintendo Switch 2 will be launching alongside Mario Kart World, a brand-new entry in the franchise. The new racer supports 24 players in a single race. On top of the traditional competitive races, Mario Kart World includes ‘Knockout Tour’ where you’ll race through back-to-back courses. If you don’t place high enough in between each race, you’ll be eliminated. The game also includes Free Roam, the first open-world mode for a Mario Kart title. Soon after launch, Nintendo will release Donkey Kong Bananza on Nintendo Switch 2. Launching on July 17, this 3D platformer looks to be an exceptional showcase of the hardware’s power. The brief trailer showed Donkey Kong smashing and tearing apart the landscape of levels.

Other new games shown include Kirby Air Riders, Drag x Drive, and Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. Third party support for the Nintendo Switch 2 includes The Duskbloods, an exclusive title developed by FromSoftware for 2026. Hades 2, EA Sports Madden NFL and WWE 2K are amongst the announced games, alongside Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment.

Nintendo Switch 2 will also offer upgrades to existing games on the original Nintendo Switch. To start, games like Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will all get upgrades with new features and quality-of-life upgrades.

Preorders for Nintendo Switch 2 will be available in Canada starting on April 9, 2025. The Nintendo Switch 2 starts at $649. However, a bundle including the hardware and a digital copy of Mario Kart World is also being sold for $699.
