Apple to Reportedly Develop ‘Bold’ 20th Anniversary Design for iPhone 19 Pro

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone in 2027, the company is reportedly developing a “major shake-up” for the design of its flagship device.
According to the latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman states Apple will release a “bold” new iPhone Pro in 2027. Under the likely guise of the iPhone 19 Pro, the device will supposedly mark a new design choice, similar to the dramatic changes introduced by the iPhone X in 2017.
While many of the details are still under wraps, Gurman believes the iPhone 19 Pro will make extensive use of glass. How exactly this may pan out is still very much up in the air. Former design chief Jony Ive famously wanted to design an iPhone made up of a single plane of glass in the past.
For the iPhone’s 10th anniversary, the company launched the iPhone X. Skipping from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone X, Apple ditched the Home button and introduced a design that exclusively uses touch for its interface. The Touch ID fingerprint sensor was dropped in exchange for Face ID. The camera array was also overhauled and was the introductory point to the camera layout we still see today.
If Apple continues with its currently naming convention, releasing a new iteration each year, the 20th anniversary will fall when Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 19 series. It’s currently unknown whether Apple will skip the 19th series and go straight to a 20th series.
Gurman also notes that Apple’s foldable iPhone is still in the works. Previously, Gurman claimed that a foldable iPhone would be released in 2026. However, Gurman now states that a foldable device will likely launch alongside this 20th-anniversary iPhone Pro in 2027. It’s unknown if Apple now plans to debut the foldable in the 20th anniversary year as the iPhone or if it’ll be a successor to the original folding iPhone.

By "bold" they probably mean we're returning to rounded edges. 😀
