Xbox Mobile and Cloud Updates Just Made Gaming Easier

Xbox app buy games.

Xbox is rolling out a wave of new features this month to improve how gamers buy, play, and manage their titles—both on mobile and on console.

A highly requested feature is finally here, as Xbox players will soon be able to buy games, join Game Pass, and redeem perks directly in the Xbox mobile app on iOS and Android. That means pre-ordering titles like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, buying Assassin’s Creed Shadows, or redeeming Game Pass Ultimate perks like Sea of Thieves emotes can all be done in just a couple of taps.

The feature will begin rolling out to beta users and will later be available to everyone through updates in the App Store and Google Play. If you already have a saved payment method, game pages will show a “Buy” button for easy checkout.

Stream Your Owned Games from Xbox Consoles

Starting today, Game Pass Ultimate members can stream not just Game Pass titles—but also select games they own—directly from Xbox Series X/S or Xbox One consoles. This means no downloading, no waiting. Just go to My games & apps > Full library > Owned games, and look for the cloud icon. Then, tap Play with Cloud Gaming.

Over 100 games are currently supported, including new additions like:

  • Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed
  • Kill It With Fire
  • LEGO Marvel Superheroes
  • Monster Jam Showdown
  • Squirrel with a Gun

Upcoming titles joining the list include SpiderHeck, Teardown, The Game of Life 2, and Wizard of Legend II.

Xbox Remote Play Expands to More Devices

Players can now use remote play through any browser by heading to xbox.com/remoteplay. While remote play is no longer directly in the Xbox mobile app, you can still stream games from your console to phones, tablets, and PCs through your browser. Xbox remote play is also expanding to Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices, and Meta Quest headsets.

As a bonus, original Xbox and Xbox 360 backward compatible games are now streamable via remote play.

Also new today is a storage management feature on Xbox consoles that now offers more intelligent recommendations. You’ll see suggestions for deleting duplicate copies of games, unused add-ons, and titles you no longer have access to. Find it by going to My Games & Apps > Manage > Free up space.

A fresh redesign of game hubs now gives you quick access to player stats, achievements, friends playing the game, recent captures, and more. A new option also allows you to skip the hub and launch games instantly. Customize this under Settings > Personalization or in My Games & Apps.

Also new today? An animated background inspired by South of Midnight is now live for Xbox Series X/S. You can enable it via the console’s background settings.

Being able to buy games directly in the Xbox app? Chalk this one up as a huge finally.
