The original Greyhound featured Hanks as Captain Ernest Krause, a U.S. Navy commander tasked with leading a convoy across the treacherous North Atlantic during World War II. The film was lauded for its intense portrayal of naval warfare and became one of Apple TV+’s most-watched productions.

The sequel aims to continue the story, delving deeper into the challenges faced by naval commanders during the war. Filming for the sequel is scheduled to begin in January 2026 in Australia, a location chosen for its versatile landscapes that can replicate various WWII-era settings.

The production will employ state-of-the-art visual effects to authentically recreate naval battles and the period’s maritime technology. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the sequel is expected to explore new theaters of war, potentially introducing audiences to different facets of the Allied naval campaign.

Aaron Schneider, who directed the original film, is set to return as the director for the sequel. The screenplay will again be penned by Hanks, ensuring continuity in the storytelling. Gary Goetzman, Hanks’ long-time collaborator, will serve as a producer through their Playtone production company.

Apple Studios will oversee the film’s production and distribution, continuing their partnership with Hanks and Goetzman.

The original film’s success, coupled with Hanks’ enduring popularity and the involvement of a skilled production team, sets high expectations for the sequel.
