Spotify Now Displays Play Counts for Podcast Episodes
Spotify has started displaying the number of times each podcast episode has been played, aiming to provide greater transparency and better engagement between creators and listeners.

As noted by TechCrunch, the update allows users to see play counts directly on the Spotify app, including on the home page, episode page, and show page.
The introduction of visible play counts is part of Spotify’s broader initiative to support podcast creators with enhanced analytics tools. By making play counts public, Spotify enables creators to benchmark their performance, understand audience preferences, and tailor content strategies accordingly.
For listeners, this feature offers a new way to discover popular episodes and engage with trending content. Seeing high play counts may encourage users to explore episodes they might have otherwise overlooked, thereby increasing overall podcast consumption on the platform.
In addition to play counts, Spotify has been enhancing its Spotify for Podcasters platform, providing creators with detailed insights into audience behavior, retention rates, and discovery sources. These tools help podcasters understand how listeners find their content and how they engage with it.

Spotify’s focus on improving podcast analytics aligns with its recent growth in the podcasting space. The company reported a gain of 5 million premium subscribers in the first quarter of 2025, totaling 268 million, marking the largest first-quarter increase since 2020.
