PNY Unveils New microSD Express Cards for Nintendo Switch

PNY has revealed its new series of microSD Express card. Offering 4.4x faster performance over standard microSD cards, the new storage option is desgined for next-gen gaming systems like Nintendo Switch 2.
As revealed by PNY, the company is launching two options for its microSD Express cards. The first is a 128GB option as well as a card with a 256GB storage capacity. The PNY microSD Express cards offer read speeds of up to 890 Mbps and write speeds of up to 750 Mbps.
What makes PNY’s microSD Express cards especially interesting is the fact that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with this type of storage. While offering 256GB of internal storage, those wishing to expand the storage for their digital library will have to pick up a microSD Express card to do so. With one of PNY’s options, players can effectively double the storage that Nintendo Switch 2 offers for their games.
Additionally, PNY’s microSD Express cards include backwards compatibility with UHS-I and UHS-II host devices at UHS-I/UHS-II speeds. So, if you’re planning on using one of the cards on other devices, you’ll be able to without any glaring issues.
Under the hood of these microSD Express cards, PNY is utilizing thermal monitoring combined with intuitive adaptive technology to keep the cards cool when in use. According to PNY, the cards leverage “unique heat dissipation designs.” With this, the adaptive technology can automatically adjust itself to optimize the temperature when needed. The cards are also designed to be protective against magnets, humidity, shocks, drops, and are waterproof.
Although Canadian prices are yet to be confirmed, PNY’s microSD Express cards are launching today. The 128GB option is available on the official website for $44.99 USD (around $61 CAD), while the 256GB card is $55.99 USD (roughly $76 CAD).
