Wealthsimple Exploring Mobile Plan with Global Roaming, Airline Wi-Fi
Toronto-based Wealthsimple is known for offering Canadians an alternative from big banks when it comes to investing and crypto.
But now, Wealthsimple may be looking into offering up a wireless plan for its customers, according to a recent survey to some customers in Ontario. The survey was found in the Wealthsimple app under the notifications tab.
A survey shared on Reddit suggests the company is gauging interest in an all-inclusive phone plan, with standout features like 150 GB of data per month, unlimited calling and texting across Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, plus global roaming in over 150 countries. The plan would also be eSIM-only, fully managed online, and include free in-flight Wi-Fi on major Canadian airlines.
“How much would you be ready to pay for an exclusive Wealthsimple phone plan like this one,” asks the survey. The proposed offer is contract-free and promises no hidden fees.
The survey, powered by Typeform and branded with Wealthsimple’s name, asks users how much they’d be willing to pay for such a plan—offering options from $30, $50, $70 and more with the choice to indicate no interest at all.
While Wealthsimple hasn’t officially announced anything, this kind of survey typically signals early market research for a potential new product, which likely will be through a partnership with a wireless carrier. Looking at the plan details, a potential partner could be Freedom Mobile, given the generous data and global roaming offering (which we’ve only seen from Rogers in Quebec out of the Big 3).
No timeline or confirmation has been given, but the idea of a Wealthsimple mobile plan is already sparking curiosity online. You can click here to sign up for Wealthsimple and get $25 free.
