Fortnite on Nintendo Switch 2 Gets Major Upgrades and a Free Emote

Fortnite will officially be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5 (Switch 2 launch day), bringing a long list of performance and visual upgrades, along with some new control options aimed at hardcore fans.
As announced by the Fortnite Team on Wednesday, the game now runs at 60 FPS on Switch 2 with higher resolution—2176 x 1224 when docked and 1600 x 900 when undocked. Players will also notice improved draw distances, high-quality textures and shadows, and enhanced water rendering. Clothing physics are now enabled, and the game’s Replay system is supported, letting players relive their best moments.
The game also supports GameChat for up to four players, and users can capture clips with the Capture button. A new visual mode leverages a full desktop-level renderer with advanced lighting effects, including high-detail geometry and ambient occlusion.
A big feature arrives on June 7: mouse controls using the new Joy-Con 2 controllers. Players will be able to aim and navigate menus using Joy-Cons as motion mice, complete with customizable button functions and a visible on-screen cursor. This works across all Battle Royale game modes, including Fortnite OG, Zero Build, and Reload.
To celebrate the launch, players who log in on Nintendo Switch 2 before March 31, 2026, will receive the exclusive Wishing Star Emote for free. Now that should get the kiddos excited.
Other key details:
- Pro Controller support is confirmed
- Your Epic Games account will carry over
- All game modes except Save the World are supported
- GameChat won’t require Nintendo Switch Online until March 31, 2026
