Epic Games has dropped a new limited-time mode in Fortnite called Blitz Royale, offering a faster spin on the classic Battle Royale formula. With only 32 players per match and rounds that wrap up in five minutes or less, it’s catered for mobile gamers.

In Blitz Royale, all players start with the same randomly assigned medallion or unique weapon on a small map. From there, the goal is to level up by eliminating opponents and surviving storm circles. As players level up, they gain access to more powerful weapons and special perks called “Boons.” Golden Chests and Supply Drops also provide valuable upgrades throughout each match.

You can play Blitz Royale solo, in duos, or as a four-player squad. Building is disabled, and a separate Training Grounds mode has replaced Team Rumble for warmups with unlimited respawns in one location.

The mode is available until July 15, and as of June 18, duos are officially supported. Epic says Blitz Royale may return in the future with new maps and changes.

Blitz Royale includes four weeks of themed gameplay updates. Week 1, starting June 18, introduces rare Mythic weapons like the Rocket Ram. Week 2, beginning June 24, features a crossover with Avatar: The Last Airbender, with pagodas appearing on the map and players starting with Bending Scrolls. Week 3 swaps those scrolls out for boss weapons, including Thorne’s Vampiric Blade and the new Blitz Chain of Hades. Finally, Week 4, launching July 8, brings melee weapons from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, along with other high-powered items like Megalo Don’s Nitro Fists and the Mythic Typhoon Blade.

Epic is also offering unlockable items tied to the mode. Players who either gain 10 account levels or finish in the top 10 of 20 Blitz Royale matches will unlock the Blitz Knight Outfit. Win three matches and you’ll earn the Blitz ‘Brella Glider. Both rewards are available until July 15 at 9 a.m. ET.

Fortnite’s Blitz Royale mode is now live, but of course you can only download Fortnite for iOS in the United States. But you can click here to learn how to download Fortnite in Canada.
