Meta to Launch Passkeys on Facebook for iOS and Android

Meta is launching passkeys for Facebook across mobile devices. Users on iOS and Android will be able to verify their identity more easily, allowing for faster and more secure access to their accounts. In a blog post, Meta reveals that passkeys will “soon be available” on mobile devices.
For the uninitiated, passkeys are commonly used as a secure digital alternative to traditional passwords. They can allow for logins into websites and apps by using fingerprint scans, face ID or PIN codes to verify the user prior to giving access. Using such biometric measures, users can access their Facebook account more securely while also not having to memorize a password.
As explained by Meta, the introduction of passkey won’t require anything but a compatible mobile device as well as your active Facebook account. Once the new feature is available, a passkey can be set up. Once established, users will be less likely to be affected by scams, malicious attacks. Creating a passkey will only take a few steps within the ‘Account Center’ menu on the Facebook app. Following the prompts, users can be set up momentarily.
Meta confirms that passkeys and the biometrics used to create them are never stored by the company or seen. Instead, biometric information will remain localized on your device to be used when needed.
In addition, Meta reveals that passkeys will work with Messenger “in the coming months.” With this feature enabled, your encrypted message backups will be secure. The company confirms that passkeys can also be utilized for securely keeping autofill payment information when using Meta Pay.
