Apple Officially Joins Threads

Apple has officially joined Meta’s Threads. A verified @apple account has appeared on the social media platform.
Two years after the platform launched, Apple has appeared to have finally made the plunge. As of the time of writing, Apple has not made a single post on Threads. However, leveraging its existing 4.8 million followers from Instagram, the Threads account already has a significant audience.
Apple’s social media presence is a bit strange overall. On X (formerly Twitter), Apple’s @apple handle is routinely used to share advertisements. The social media site isn’t used for fun engagements or content sharing. Likewise, its Facebook account is fairly buttoned up as well. On Instagram, the Apple account is primarily used to highlight Shot on iPhone content. Finally, it’s TikTok account shares Apple product tips. All of this is to say that there’s no telling how Apple may utilize its Threads account once content begins to be posted.
There’s also the slim possibility Apple may sit on the account and is simply activating the Threads account for something down the road. There’s no telling when the Threads account will become active.
For now, we’ll wait with bated breath to see what Apple’s plans are, especially over the summer, leading into the eventual reveal of the iPhone 17 series in the fall.
Earlier this year, TechCrunch reported that Threads has more than 350 million monthly active users. Apple is smart to tap into this audience, whether it’s for advertising or simply sharing upcoming product news.
