Google’s Gemini AI Assistant Now Rolling Out to Wear OS Smartwatches

Google has started rolling out its Gemini AI assistant to smartwatches running Wear OS, including devices from Pixel, Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus and Xiaomi. The update brings voice-powered support directly to users’ wrists, offering many of the same features already available on Gemini for smartphones.
Once installed, users can activate Gemini by saying the classic “Hey Google,” pressing and holding the side button, or tapping the Gemini app on the watch screen. The assistant is designed to handle everyday tasks more naturally and efficiently, using conversational language to deliver quick answers and manage information.
For example, users can ask about the weather before leaving the house or check how long to roast vegetables while cooking, all without picking up their phone. If you’re rushing between meetings or heading out the door, you can ask Gemini to confirm addresses, summarize emails, or even navigate to appointments.
Gemini also supports messaging and music controls during activities like running or biking. You can send a message, create a running playlist, or even add events to your calendar on the fly. The assistant connects with apps like Gmail and Google Calendar, though users will need to enable these features in the Gemini app settings on their phone.
One key feature is Gemini’s ability to remember small details. You can ask it to recall your parking spot, locker number, or remind you to buy groceries after work. These prompts can be retrieved later just by asking. Now that’s way smarter than Apple’s Siri already, by a long shot.
The rollout begins today for watches running Wear OS 4 or newer, and Gemini will also be supported on upcoming Wear OS 6 updates, which will include deeper integration with each brand’s native apps.
