Uber Canada Launches Senior Accounts: What You Need to Know

Uber Canada has launched a new feature aimed at making its app easier to use for older adults. Called Senior Accounts, the update includes larger text, fewer buttons, and simplified directions to help seniors book rides with less hassle.
The move comes as Canada’s senior population continues to grow. According to Statistics Canada, nearly 1 in 5 Canadians are now over the age of 65.
The new feature is part of Uber’s Family Profiles, which lets a loved one help set up and manage the account if needed. Once set up, seniors can book rides independently or ask family members to assist.
For those who prefer to manage everything on their own, Uber is also introducing Simple Mode. The optional setting, found in the app’s Account section, gives users the same larger text and simplified interface—without needing to join a Family Profile.

Uber says the changes were developed with input from aging advocates, accessibility experts, and seniors themselves.
“We took to heart the feedback from older riders and their loved ones, and one message stood out: technology should support, not complicate,” said Michael van Hemmen, General Manager of Mobility at Uber Canada, in an issued statement.
“Senior accounts represent a reimagined app experience, designed from the ground up to help older adults stay mobile, independent, and connected.”
The new setup lets users save frequent destinations, use personal or family payment methods, allow loved ones to track trips and receive delay alerts, and get help booking rides when needed.
Uber says it plans to continue improving accessibility as more Canadians age and need flexible ways to get around.
