Meta Taps Calgary’s Enbridge for Solar Power in $900M Deal

Calgary-based Enbridge has decided to move forward with a large solar power project in Texas. The 600-megawatt facility, called Clear Fork, is being built near San Antonio and is expected to start operating in summer 2027.

The entire output from the solar plant will be sold to Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, under a long-term contract. Enbridge says the project will cost around $900 million US ($1.22 billion CAD) and should start contributing to the company’s earnings in 2027.

“Clear Fork demonstrates the growing demand for renewable power across North America from blue-chip companies who are involved in technology and data centre operations,” said Matthew Akman, Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy, & President, Power, in a statement. “Enbridge continues to advance its world-class renewables development portfolio using our financial strength, supply chain reach and construction expertise under a low-risk commercial model that delivers strong competitive returns.”

Construction has already started. Once complete, Clear Fork will be one of the larger solar power installations in the region, as big tech companies like Meta look to power their data centres and operations with clean energy.

Enbridge, traditionally known for pipelines, has been expanding its investments in renewables across North America.
