As spotted by PC Mag, SpaceX has restored one of its most popular customer perks for satellite internet users across the U.S. and Canada. New subscribers signing up for the top-tier Starlink Residential Max plan can once again claim a free Starlink Mini hardware rental alongside half-price mobile data packages.
Back in June, Starlink stripped the optional Mini kit perk from its flagship subscription tier without offering a formal public explanation. That decision forced new Residential Max customers to pay full price for extra hardware rentals, frustrating power users who relied on the compact satellite dish for travel.
Under the updated terms listed on Starlink’s Canadian website, active Residential Max subscribers paying CAD $150 per month can opt to receive a secondary Starlink Mini dish at zero monthly hardware rental cost. To make the portable unit more appealing, SpaceX is also throwing in a 50% discount on monthly Roam plans, which are required to activate and use the compact dish away from a home address.
The portable Starlink Mini has become a massive hit among campers, digital nomads, and road-trippers since its release. Smaller and significantly lighter than the standard residential dish, the Mini runs on low power consumption and can easily slide into a backpack.
When SpaceX first added the free Mini rental perk to its Residential Max tier earlier this year, demand surged so rapidly that shipping delays stretched up to four full weeks. The ability to use a primary dish for fixed home broadband while taking a secondary, portable satellite dish on road trips created a major incentive for users to upgrade to the company’s highest tier.
The return of the free Mini rental also aligns with recent adjustments to Starlink’s broader pricing structure. After briefly attempting to impose a $10 monthly hardware fee across standard Residential setups earlier this summer, SpaceX has now also removed those charges.
