iPhone 17 Pro Allegedly Spotted in the Wild, According to New Photos

A prototype ‘iPhone 17 Pro’ appears to have been seen out in the open, caught in a photo, ahead of the official release in September.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), @Skyfops shared two photos depicting what looks to be some sort of in-development iPhone. “I just spotted a test development iPhone in the wild,” the post says.

In one photo, a person wearing a pair of sunglasses appears to be holding what looks to be an iPhone in a black case. It’s assumed that the device is being protected and disguised in this case to hide the design of the iPhone 17 Pro while in public. Behind the disguised device is what looks to be an iPhone 16 Pro with a sticker on the back, hiding the data matrix code used to track internal iPhones used by Apple employees. It’s also alleged that a security guard was walking “in front of the iPhone to hide it,” says Skyfops.

What gives this post a lot of credence is that it’s rumoured that the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a more rectangular camera bump. The change in camera array design will be to accommodate a LiDAR Scanner, rear microphone and LED flash capabilities. These are expected to be vertically aligned on the rear of the device, near the right-hand side. As per the photo, this device appears to feature small circular cutouts in the approximate location of these new features.

The post obviously garnered a lot of attention online. There’s no concrete evidence suggesting the device in the photo is indeed an iPhone 17 Pro. However, the post was later shared by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. Catching the reporter’s eye, he later remarked, “This looks legit.”

Aside from perhaps confirming what we have already been speculating, the photos unfortunately don’t offer any further insights into the iPhone 17 Pro. That being said, we’re expecting Apple to reveal the iPhone 17 series of devices sometime in late September, per tradition. It won’t be too long until the company pulls the curtain back on the Pro model and all the new trappings.
