Apple and Trump to Announce Another $100 Billion Investment: Report

Apple is reportedly gearing up to spend an additional $100 billion to build more of its products in the United States—a move seen as both political and practical as pressure from the White House ramps up.

According to Bloomberg, President Donald Trump is expected to make the announcement himself at an event in Washington today, with Apple CEO Tim Cook planning to attend. The new money would go toward expanding Apple’s manufacturing presence in the U.S., including bringing more of its supply chain stateside.

This fresh investment would push Apple’s total U.S. manufacturing pledge to $600 billion over four years, building on a previous $500 billion commitment that included projects like a server facility in Houston and a supplier training centre in Michigan.

While full iPhone assembly in the U.S. still seems unlikely, Apple could focus its investment on smaller hardware projects, in-house servers, or future AI and chip development. That shift might help the company dodge rising tariffs, especially as Trump targets India — now the main hub for iPhone assembly — with new trade penalties.

Apple is also facing the threat of additional tariffs on any product containing semiconductors, a move that could hit nearly its entire lineup. In past years, Apple has managed to secure exemptions to avoid import taxes, and some see this latest move as a strategy to keep that option open.

“Unlikely to be iPhone assembly — more likely a subassembly for a small-volume product, or assembly for niche products or Apple’s in-house servers,” reacted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Industry watchers say this is less about building every iPhone in America—and more about protecting Apple’s bottom line. We should find out soon enough when the official announcement drops today.
