Nintendo Announced ‘My Mario’ Products Aimed at Kids, Including ‘Hello, Mario!’ App

Nintendo has announced the new ‘My Mario’ line of products, targeted towards a younger audience. Core products will be sold to consumers in Japan. However, a few elements of the lineup will be made available in Canada and global markets.

My Mario is designed to speak to young children, to familiarize them with Nintendo’s most prolific IP. The My Mario products will be made available in Nintendo‘s Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto stores, starting on August 26. In total, 34 products are being developed for the My Mario line.

As announced via the My Mario website, one of the products to be released is a wooden block set, highlighting Super Mario characters. These will be sold in 3-piece sets for ¥2,980 (around $27 CAD). Characters include Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Peach. The best part is that each of the blocks double as amiibos.

The other major product being introduced is Hello, Mario!, which is being introduced first as a book. Published by Shogakukan, Hello, Mario! incorporates elements where children can interact with Mario’s face and mouth.

To coincide with the book, a Hello, Mario! app is being released as well. This free software is being launched on smartphones and the Nintendo Switch. Players can pull and manipulate Mario’s face. This is all designed to be similar to the title screen in Super Mario 64.

Nintendo will also be releasing a series of shorts on the My Mario website and Nintendo’s YouTube channel. Dubbed It’s Me, Mario!, the series will be made as stop-motion videos.

Finally, Nintendo is partnering with other companies like Bandai and Happinet to release clothing and toys for young children and babies. Hoodies, shirts, backpacks and small hand-washable toys are being made available.

My Mario arrives a month before Super Mario Bros. celebrates its 40th anniversary on September 13. We’ll likely see Nintendo pull all the stops in making a big occasion for this milestone.
