Apple Testing AI Siri That Can Fully Control Apps With Just Your Voice: Report
Apple is working on a big new AI-powered Siri capability that could let you control apps entirely with your voice—but you’ll have to wait until next spring to try it.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in his Power On newsletter Sunday that Apple is testing an upgraded version of App Intents, a system that would allow Siri to perform complex actions inside apps without you touching the screen. Think telling Siri to find a specific photo, edit it, and send it, or to add something to your Amazon cart, all hands-free.
This feature is already in testing with third-party apps like Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, plus Apple’s own apps. Banking and health apps may be restricted or excluded entirely due to security and accuracy concerns.
The delay comes after Apple decided to push back other next-gen Siri features it previewed at WWDC 2024—like pulling personal information from messages, emails, and maps—which also led to a false advertising lawsuit over a pulled Bella Ramsey commercial.
Gurman says the App Intents upgrade is now a top priority, as it will be key to upcoming products like Apple’s smart display and future home devices.
Apple plans to ship the feature alongside a broader Siri infrastructure overhaul in spring 2026, but engineers are still working to ensure it’s accurate enough for high-stakes situations. If successful, this could finally deliver the hands-free iPhone experience Siri promised more than a decade ago.
One day an AI-powered Siri will come for the masses. It’s like dad went out to buy milk and never came back. Keep your Siri hope alive, folks.
