How to Watch Eminem’s ‘Stans’ Documentary in Canada

A new Eminem-produced documentary exploring the lives of his most devoted fans will premiere on Paramount+ in Canada, the U.S., Latin America and Brazil on August 26. The U.K., Australia, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria will get it on August 27, followed by Japan on October 3.

STANS, directed by Emmy winner Steven Leckart, takes its name from Eminem’s 2000 hit “Stan,” a song about an obsessive fan that became so iconic the term “stan” was added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2017. The film focuses on real-life fans whose personal connections to the rapper reflect themes in his music.

“’Stan’ is one of the most unconventional songs ever written, where the story is mostly told from a fan’s perspective, so this film was an incredible opportunity to find a unique approach,” Leckart said in a statement on Wednesday. “We kept coming back to one lyric from the song: ‘I’m just like you.’ Fans who echo that same sentiment carry much of the film. But like the song, Marshall’s perspective was also essential to the movie. I’m grateful for just how candid, sincere and frequently hilarious he was.”

The documentary blends stylized recreations, archival footage and interviews to examine the relationship between one of music’s most private figures and his public persona — a career that’s included everything from The Real Slim Shady to the present day.

It debuted earlier this year at SXSW London, followed by a fan event in New York City on August 6, where Eminem made a surprise appearance. The film then had a limited run at AMC Theatres in the U.S. from August 7–10.

STANS is produced by Eminem, Paul Rosenberg, Stuart Parr, Antoine Fuqua, Tony DiSanto and David Schiff, with DIGA Studios and Shady Films, among others. If you’re a fan of Eminem’s music then you’re going to want to check this one out.
